A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him for a mount. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We will give you the offspring of a she-camel to ride."The man said, "Messenger of Allah, what would I do with the offspring of a she-camel?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Do camels give birth to anything other than what she-camels bear?"
Its isnad is sahih. Khalaf bin Walid is trustworthy, as mentioned before, and Khalid bin Abdullah is al-Tahhan, also mentioned before. The hadith was recorded by Abu Dawud, 5/270, no. 4998, in the Book of Manners, chapter on what has been said about joking, and by Tirmidhi, 4/314, no. 1991, in the Book of Righteousness, chapter on joking. It is possible that the text has been inverted, since the correct wording would be, "Do camels give birth to anything but she-camels?"
