Anas bin Malik reported,

A man said, "Muhammad, our best one and son of our best one, our master and son of our master."He replied, "Say what you have to say, and do not let Satan, or the devils, lead you astray. I am Muhammad bin Abdullah, His servant and His Messenger," (the narrator was uncertain which of the two phrasings he used, "Muhammad bin Abdullah and His Messenger" or "Muhammad, the servant of Allah and His Messenger"). "I do not wish for you to raise me above the station in which Allah has placed me."

أن رجلا قال يا محمد يا خيرنا وابن خيرنا ويا سيدنا وابن سيدنا فقال قولوا بقولكم ولا يستجركم الشيطان أو الشياطين قال إحدى الكلمتين أنا محمد بن عبد الله ورسوله أنا محمد عبد الله ورسوله ما أحب أن ترفعوني فوق منزلتي التي أنزلني الله عز وجل
