The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of Badr, "Who will go and see what has become of Abu Jahl?"Abdullah bin Masud set out and found him already struck down by the two sons of Afra, who had beaten him until he collapsed. Ibn Masud seized him by the beard and said, "Are you Abu Jahl? Are you the misguided old man?"Abu Jahl replied, "Is there anything greater than a man you have killed?" Or he said, "...whom his own people have killed?"

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال يوم بدر من ينظر ما فعل أبو جهل قال فانطلق عبد الله بن مسعود فوجد ابني عفراء قد ضرباه حتى برك قال فأخذ بلحيته ابن مسعود فقال آنت أبو جهل آنت الشيخ الضال قال فقال أبو جهل هل فوق رجل قتلتموه أو قال قتله قومه
