When news reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of the approach of Abu Sufyan, Abu Bakr spoke, but he turned away from him. Then Umar spoke, and he turned away from him as well.Saad bin Ubada then said, "Is it us you want, Messenger of Allah? By the One in whose hand is my soul, if you ordered us to plunge our horses into the seas, we would plunge them in. And if you ordered us to drive them to Bark al-Ghimad, we would do so."Affan then mentioned a narration similar to the hadith of Abdul-Samad, up to his statement, "and not one of them moved from the spot indicated by the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد عن ثابت
أن رسول الله ﷺ حيث بلغه إقبال أبي سفيان قال فتكلم أبو بكر فأعرض عنه ثم تكلم عمر فأعرض فقال سعد بن عبادة إيانا تريد يا رسول الله والذي نفسي بيده لو أمرتنا أن نخيضها البحار لأخضناها ولو أمرتنا أن نضرب أكبادها إلى برك الغماد قال فذكر عفان نحو حديث عبد الصمد إلى قوله فما أماط أحدهم عن موضع يد رسول الله ﷺ
