The Prophet of Allah ﷺ approached Madinah riding behind Abu Bakr on the same mount. Abu Bakr was an older man who was recognized, while the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was a young man who was not known. A man would meet Abu Bakr and ask, "Abu Bakr, who is this man in front of you?"Abu Bakr would reply, "This man guides me along the way."The questioner would assume he meant the man was guiding him along the road, while Abu Bakr actually meant the path of goodness.Abu Bakr then turned and saw a horseman who had caught up with them. He said, "Prophet of Allah, this is a horseman who has overtaken us."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ turned and said, "O Allah, throw him down."So his horse threw him, then stood neighing. The horseman then said, "Prophet of Allah, command me with whatever you wish."He said, "Stay where you are. Do not let anyone catch up with us."So the man who had been fighting against the Prophet of Allah ﷺ in the early part of the day became his guard by the end of it.The Prophet of Allah ﷺ stopped at the edge of the Harrah, then sent for the Ansar. They came to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ and greeted both him and Abu Bakr, saying, "Mount and ride, safe and at ease."So the Prophet of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr mounted, and the Ansar surrounded them with their weapons. The word went out in Madinah, "The Prophet of Allah has arrived." People stretched their necks to catch sight of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, looking at him and saying, "The Prophet of Allah has come."He continued on until he came alongside the house of Abu Ayub. While he was speaking with the people of that house, Abdullah bin Salam heard about him. Abdullah was in a date grove belonging to his family, gathering dates for them. He hurried to put down what he was gathering, but came still carrying it. He listened to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, then returned to his family.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Which of our relatives' houses is closest?"Abu Ayub said, "I, Prophet of Allah. This is my house and this is my door."He said, "Go and prepare a place for us to rest."So Abu Ayub went and prepared a resting place for them, then came back and said, "Prophet of Allah, I have prepared a resting place for the two of you. Come, with the blessing of Allah."So they went and rested. When the Prophet of Allah ﷺ arrived, Abdullah bin Salam came and said, "I bear witness that you are truly the Messenger of Allah and that you have come with the truth. The Jews know that I am their chief and the son of their chief, the most learned among them and the son of their most learned. So summon them and question them."They came in to him, and the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said to them, "People of the Jews, woe to you. Fear Allah. By Him besides whom there is no god, you know that I am truly the Messenger of Allah and that I have come to you with the truth. Become Muslims."They said, "We do not know that," three times.
حدثنا عبد الصمد حدثني أبي حدثنا عبد العزيز قال
أقبل نبي الله ﷺ إلى المدينة وهو مردف أبا بكر وأبو بكر شيخ يعرف ونبي الله ﷺ شاب لا يعرف قال فيلقى الرجل أبا بكر فيقول يا أبا بكر من هذا الرجل الذي بين يديك فيقول هذا الرجل يهديني إلى السبيل فيحسب الحاسب أنه إنما يهديه الطريق وإنما يعني سبيل الخير فالتفت أبو بكر فإذا هو بفارس قد لحقهم فقال يا نبي الله هذا فارس قد لحق بنا قال فالتفت نبي الله ﷺ فقال اللهم اصرعه فصرعته فرسه ثم قامت تحمحم قال ثم قال يا نبي الله مرني بما شئت قال قف مكانك لا تتركن أحدا يلحق بنا قال فكان أول النهار جاهدا على نبي الله ﷺ وكان آخر النهار مسلحة له قال فنزل نبي الله ﷺ جانب الحرة ثم بعث إلى الأنصار فجاءوا نبي الله ﷺ فسلموا عليهما وقالوا اركبا آمنين مطمئنين قال فركب نبي الله ﷺ وأبو بكر وحفوا حولهما بالسلاح قال فقيل بالمدينة جاء نبي الله فاستشرفوا نبي الله ﷺ ينظرون إليه ويقولون جاء نبي الله فأقبل يسير حتى جاء إلى جانب دار أبي أيوب قالوا فإنه ليحدث أهلها إذ سمع به عبد الله بن سلام وهو في نخل لأهله يخترف لهم منه فعجل أن يضع الذي يخترف فيها فجاء وهي معه فسمع من نبي الله ﷺ فرجع إلى أهله فقال رسول الله ﷺ أي بيوت أهلنا أقرب قال فقال أبو أيوب أنا يا نبي الله هذه داري وهذا بابي قال فانطلق فهيئ لنا مقيلا قال فذهب فهيأ لهما مقيلا ثم جاء فقال يا نبي الله قد هيأت لكما مقيلا فقوما على بركة الله فقيلا فلما جاء نبي الله ﷺ جاء عبد الله بن سلام فقال أشهد أنك رسول الله حقا وأنك جئت بحق ولقد علمت اليهود أني سيدهم وابن سيدهم وأعلمهم وابن أعلمهم فادعهم فاسألهم فدخلوا عليه فقال لهم نبي الله ﷺ يا معشر اليهود ويلكم اتقوا الله فوالذي لا إله إلا الله إنكم لتعلمون أني رسول الله حقا وأني جئتكم بحق أسلموا قالوا ما نعلمه ثلاثا
