A man from the People of the Book came and greeted the Prophet ﷺ saying, "As-samu alaykum."Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, shall I strike off his neck?"He replied, "No. When they greet you, simply say, 'And upon you.'"
حدثنا سليمان بن داود حدثنا شعبة عن هشام بن زيد بن أنس قال سمعت
جاء رجل من أهل الكتاب فسلم على النبي ﷺ فقال السام عليكم فقال عمر يا رسول الله ألا أضرب عنقه قال لا إذا سلموا عليكم فقولوا وعليكم
