A man asked, "Messenger of Allah, who is my father?"He replied, "Your father is so-and-so."Then the verse was revealed, "O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if made clear to you, would distress you" [Maidah 5:101], to the completion of the verse.
حدثنا روح حدثنا شعبة قال أخبرني موسى بن أنس قال سمعت
قال رجل يا رسول الله من أبي قال أبوك فلان فنزلت {يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تسألوا عن أشياء إن تبد لكم تسؤكم} إلى تمام الآية
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated it, 13/265, no. 7294 (Fath), in "Holding Fast [to the Book and Sunnah]," "What is disliked of excessive questioning." Muslim narrated it, 4/1832, no. 2359, in "Virtues," "His ﷺ." And Tirmidhi, 5/256, no. 3006, and he said, hasan sahih.
