Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to offer a voluntary prayer on his mount, he would face the qiblah and say the opening takbir, then he would let his mount go and pray in whatever direction it carried him.
حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال أخبرنا ربعي بن الجارود بن أبي سبرة التميمي قال حدثني عمرو بن أبي الحجاج عن الجارود بن أبي سبرة
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا أراد أن يصلي على راحلته تطوعا استقبل القبلة فكبر للصلاة ثم خلى عن راحلته فصلى حيثما توجهت به
