Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Umar bin Khattab leaned over the Black Stone and said, "I know well that you are only a stone. Had I not seen my beloved ﷺ kiss you and touch you, I would neither touch you nor kiss you." Then he recited, "Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example to follow" [Ahzab 33:21].

أن عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه أكب على الركن فقال إني لأعلم أنك حجر ولو لم أر حبيبي ﷺ قبلك واستلمك ما استلمتك ولا قبلتك و {لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسنة}
