The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me at the time of the predawn meal, "Anas, I want to fast, so bring me something to eat."I brought him some dates and a vessel of water after Bilal had already given the call to prayer. He said, "Anas, find someone to eat with me."So I called Zayd bin Thabit, who said, "Messenger of Allah, I have already drunk a draught of barley gruel, and I intend to fast."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I too intend to fast."So Zayd ate the predawn meal with him. Then the Prophet ﷺ prayed two rakahs and went out, and the prayer was called to begin.
حدثنا عبد الرازق حدثنا معمر عن قتادة
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ وذلك في السحر يا أنس إني أريد الصيام فأطعمني شيئا قال فجئته بتمر وإناء فيه ماء بعد ما أذن بلال فقال يا أنس انظر إنسانا يأكل معي قال فدعوت زيد بن ثابت فقال يا رسول الله إني شربت شربة سويق وأنا أريد الصيام قال رسول الله ﷺ وأنا أريد الصيام فتسحر معه وصلى ركعتين ثم خرج فأقيمت الصلاة
