On Monday, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew back the curtain of the chamber and saw Abu Bakr leading the people in prayer. I looked at his face, and it was as though it were a page of the Mushaf, and he was smiling. We nearly became distracted in our prayer out of joy at seeing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Abu Bakr started to step back, but he gestured to him to stay where he was. Then he let the curtain fall, and he passed away that same day.Umar then stood and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has not died. Rather, his Lord has sent for him just as He sent for Musa, who remained away from his people for forty nights. By Allah, I do hope that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ will live long enough to cut off the hands and tongues of certain men among the hypocrites who claim," or he said, "who say, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has died."
