Anas bin Malik reported,

The Prophet ﷺ was praying during Ramadan, so I came and stood behind him. Then a man came and stood beside me, then another, until we were a small group. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sensed that we were behind him, he shortened his prayer. He then went into his house and prayed a prayer he had not prayed with us.When morning came, we said, "Messenger of Allah, did you notice us last night?"He replied, "Yes, and that is what made me do what I did."He then began to fast continuously without breaking his fast, and that was at the end of the month. Some men among his companions also began to fast continuously.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What is the matter with Some men who fast continuously? You are not like me. By Allah, if the month were extended for me, I would continue fasting in such a way that those who go to extremes would abandon their extremism."

حدثنا بهز وحجاج حدثنا سليمان بن المغيرة المعنى عن ثابت

عن أنس قال

كان النبي ﷺ يصلي في رمضان فجئت فقمت خلفه قال وجاء رجل فقام إلى جنبي ثم جاء آخر حتى كنا رهطا فلما أحس رسول الله ﷺ أنا خلفه تجوز في الصلاة ثم قام فدخل منزله فصلى صلاة لم يصلها عندنا قال فلما أصبحنا قال قلنا يا رسول الله أفطنت بنا الليلة قال نعم فذاك الذي حملني على الذي صنعت قال ثم أخذ يواصل وذاك في آخر الشهر قال فأخذ رجال يواصلون من أصحابه قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ ما بال رجال يواصلون إنكم لستم مثلي أما والله لو مد لي الشهر لواصلت وصالا يدع المتعمقون تعمقهم
