The Prophet ﷺ heard a child crying while he was leading the prayer, so he shortened it. We thought he did so out of compassion for the child, since he knew the child's mother was praying with him.
حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله يعني الأنصاري حدثنا حميد
سمع النبي ﷺ نداء صبي وهو في الصلاة فخفف فظننا أنه إنما فعل ذلك رحمة للصبي إذ علم أن أمه معه في الصلاة
