Anas bin Malik reported,

Abu Talha married Umm Sulaym, who is the mother of Anas and Bara. She bore him a son whom he loved deeply. The boy fell gravely ill, and Abu Talha would rise for the morning prayer, perform ablution, go to the Prophet ﷺ, pray with him, and remain in his company until nearly midday. Then he would come home, take his afternoon nap, and eat. After praying Zuhr, he would prepare himself and leave again, not returning until after the night prayer. One evening he went out, and the boy died. Umm Sulaym said, "I wrapped him in a cloth and left him there."When Abu Talha came home, he asked her, "Umm Sulaym, how did my son spend his night?"She replied, "Abu Talha, your son has not been more at ease since he fell ill than he was tonight."Then she brought him food, and he ate and was content. He went to his bed and laid down his head. She said, "I got up, applied some perfume, and then came and joined him in bed. The moment he caught the scent of the perfume, what happens between a man and his wife happened between us."In the morning, Abu Talha began preparing himself as he did every day.She said to him, "Abu Talha, tell me, if a man entrusted you with something on loan, and you enjoyed the use of it, and then he came asking for it back and took it from you, would you be distressed by that?"He said, "No."She said, "Then your son has died."Anas said, Abu Talha grieved bitterly, and he went and told the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what she had done with the food and the perfume, and what had passed between them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "So the two of you spent the night as bride and groom while he lay beside you?"He said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah bless your night for you both."Umm Sulaym conceived that very night and gave birth to a boy. When morning came, Abu Talha said to me, "Carry him in a cloth and bring him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and take some Ajwa dates with you."I carried him in a cloth, and nothing had been placed in his mouth, no food or anything else had touched him.I said, "Messenger of Allah, Umm Sulaym has given birth."He said, "Allahu Akbar! What did she bear?"I said, "A boy."He said, "Praise be to Allah. Bring him to me."I handed the child to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the tahnik. Then he asked, "Do you have any Ajwa dates with you?"I said, "Yes," and produced some dates. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a date and put it in his mouth, and he kept chewing it until it was mixed with his saliva. Then he placed it in the child's mouth. The moment the child tasted the sweetness of the date, he began to suck on it, drawing in some of the sweetness of the date together with the saliva of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So the first thing to enter that child's belly was the saliva of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Ansar's love for dates!" He was named Abdullah bin Abu Talha. Many men descended from him, and Abdullah was martyred in Persia.
