He took us to Sham to see Abdul-Malik, and we were forty men from the Ansar, so that he might assign us stipends. When he returned and we were at Fajj an-Naqah, he led us in the Asr prayer, then gave the salam and entered his tent. The people stood up to add two more rakahs to his two rakahs.He said, "May Allah disfigure these faces. By Allah, they have neither followed the Sunnah nor accepted the concession. I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There will be people who go to extremes in religion, passing through it as an arrow passes through its target.'"
حدثنا حسين بن محمد حدثنا خلف عن حفص
انطلق بنا إلى الشام إلى عبد الملك ونحن أربعون رجلا من الأنصار ليفرض لنا فلما رجع وكنا بفج الناقة صلى بنا العصر ثم سلم ودخل فسطاطه وقام القوم يضيفون إلى ركعتيه ركعتين أخريين قال فقال قبح الله الوجوه فوالله ما أصابت السنة ولا قبلت الرخصة فأشهد لسمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن أقواما يتعمقون في الدين يمرقون كما يمرق السهم من الرمية
Its isnad is sahih, and its like has already preceded at 11836. Fih al-Naqah is a place on the borders of Jordan.
