Anas bin Malik reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I was brought Buraq, an animal white in color, larger than a donkey and smaller than a mule, which would place its hoof at the farthest point of its sight. I mounted it and it carried me until I reached Bayt al-Maqdis. There I tethered the animal to the ring that the prophets tether their mounts to, then I went in and prayed two units of prayer inside. Then I came out, and Jibreel came to me with a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk.Jibreel said, "You have chosen the fitrah."Then he took us up to the nearest heaven, and Jibreel asked for it to be opened.Someone asked, "Who is this?"He answered, "Jibreel.""And who is with you?""Muhammad.""Has he been sent for?""He has been sent for."So it was opened for us, and there was Adam. He welcomed me and prayed for my good.Then he took us up to the second heaven, and Jibreel asked for it to be opened.Someone asked, "Who is this?"He answered, "Jibreel.""And who is with you?""Muhammad.""Has he been sent for?""He has been sent for."So it was opened for us, and there were the two cousins, Yahya and Isa. They welcomed me and prayed for my good.Then he took us up to the third heaven, and Jibreel asked for it to be opened.Someone asked, "Who is this?"He answered, "Jibreel.""And who is with you?""Muhammad ﷺ.""Has he been sent for?""He has been sent for."So it was opened for us, and there was Yusuf , who had been given half of all beauty. He welcomed me and prayed for my good.Then he took us up to the fourth heaven, and Jibreel asked for it to be opened.Someone asked, "Who is this?"He answered, "Jibreel.""And who is with you?""Muhammad.""Has he been sent for?""He has been sent for."So the gate was opened, and there was Idris. He welcomed me and prayed for my good. Allah says of him, "And We raised him to a high station" [Maryam 19:57].Then he took us up to the fifth heaven, and Jibreel asked for it to be opened.Someone asked, "Who is this?"He answered, "Jibreel.""And who is with you?""Muhammad.""Has he been sent for?""He has been sent for."So it was opened for us, and there was Harun. He welcomed me and prayed for my good.Then he took us up to the sixth heaven, and Jibreel asked for it to be opened.Someone asked, "Who is this?"He answered, "Jibreel.""And who is with you?""Muhammad.""Has he been sent for?""He has been sent for."So it was opened for us, and there was Musa . He welcomed me and prayed for my good.Then he took us up to the seventh heaven, and Jibreel asked for it to be opened.Someone asked, "Who is this?"He answered, "Jibreel.""And who is with you?""Muhammad.""Has he been sent for?""He has been sent for."So it was opened for us, and there was Ibrahim ﷺ, reclining against the Frequented House, which seventy thousand angels enter every day, never to return to it again.Then I was taken to the Lote Tree of the Farthest Boundary. Its leaves were like the ears of elephants and its fruit like large jars. When what came from the command of Allah covered it, it was transformed, and no one among Allah's creation could describe it for its beauty.Then Allah revealed to me what He revealed, and He made fifty prayers obligatory upon me every day and night. I went down until I reached Musa.Musa asked, "What has your Lord made obligatory upon your nation?"I answered, "Fifty prayers every day and night."He said, "Go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it, for your nation cannot bear that. I have tested the Children of Israil and know them well."So I went back to my Lord and said, "My Lord, lighten it for my nation." He took five away from me.I returned to Musa, and he asked, "What did you do?"I said, "He took five away from me."He said, "Your nation cannot bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for your nation."I kept going back and forth between my Lord and Musa, and five would be taken away each time, until He said, "Muhammad, they are five prayers every day and night, and every prayer counts as ten, so that makes fifty prayers. Whoever intends a good deed and does not do it will have one good deed recorded, and if he does it, ten will be recorded. Whoever intends a bad deed and does not do it will have nothing recorded, and if he does it, a single bad deed will be recorded."Then I went down until I reached Musa and told him.He said, "Go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for your nation, for your nation cannot bear that."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have gone back to my Lord so many times that I feel ashamed."

عن أنس بن مالك

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال أتيت بالبراق وهو دابة أبيض فوق الحمار ودون البغل يضع حافره عند منتهى طرفه فركبته فسار بي حتى أتيت بيت المقدس فربطت الدابة بالحلقة التي يربط فيها الأنبياء ثم دخلت فصليت فيه ركعتين ثم خرجت فجاءني جبريل عليه السلام بإناء من خمر وإناء من لبن فاخترت اللبن قال جبريل أصبت الفطرة ثم عرج بنا إلى السماء الدنيا فاستفتح جبريل فقيل ومن أنت قال جبريل قيل ومن معك قال محمد فقيل وقد أرسل إليه قال قد أرسل إليه ففتح لنا فإذا أنا بآدم فرحب ودعا لي بخير ثم عرج بنا إلى السماء الثانية فاستفتح جبريل فقيل ومن أنت قال جبريل فقيل ومن معك قال محمد فقيل وقد أرسل إليه قال قد أرسل إليه قال ففتح لنا فإذا أنا بابني الخالة يحيى وعيسى فرحبا ودعوا لي بخير ثم عرج بنا إلى السماء الثالثة فاستفتح جبريل فقيل من أنت قال جبريل فقيل ومن معك قال محمد ﷺ فقيل وقد أرسل إليه قال وقد أرسل إليه ففتح لنا فإذا أنا بيوسف عليه السلام وإذا هو قد أعطي شطر الحسن فرحب ودعا لي بخير ثم عرج بنا إلى السماء الرابعة فاستفتح جبريل فقيل من أنت قال جبريل قيل ومن معك قال محمد فقيل قد أرسل إليه قال قد أرسل إليه ففتح الباب فإذا أنا بإدريس فرحب بي ودعا لي بخير ثم قال يقول الله عز وجل {ورفعناه مكانا عليا} ثم عرج بنا إلى السماء الخامسة فاستفتح جبريل فقيل من أنت قال جبريل فقيل ومن معك قال محمد فقيل قد بعث إليه قال قد بعث إليه ففتح لنا فإذا أنا بهارون فرحب ودعا لي بخير ثم عرج بنا إلى السماء السادسة فاستفتح جبريل فقيل من أنت قال جبريل قيل ومن معك قال محمد فقيل وقد بعث إليه قال قد بعث إليه ففتح لنا فإذا أنا بموسى عليه السلام فرحب ودعا لي بخير ثم عرج بنا إلى السماء السابعة فاستفتح جبريل فقيل من أنت قال جبريل قيل ومن معك قال محمد قيل وقد بعث إليه قال قد بعث إليه ففتح لنا فإذا أنا بإبراهيم ﷺ وإذا هو مستند إلى البيت المعمور وإذا هو يدخله كل يوم سبعون ألف ملك لا يعودون إليه ثم ذهب بي إلى سدرة المنتهى وإذا ورقها كآذان الفيلة وإذا ثمرها كالقلال فلما غشيها من أمر الله ما غشيها تغيرت فما أحد من خلق الله يستطيع أن يصفها من حسنها قال فأوحى الله عز وجل إلي ما أوحى وفرض علي في كل يوم وليلة خمسين صلاة فنزلت حتى انتهيت إلى موسى فقال ما فرض ربك على أمتك قال قلت خمسين صلاة في كل يوم وليلة قال ارجع إلى ربك فاسأله التخفيف فإن أمتك لا تطيق ذلك وإني قد بلوت بني إسرائيل وخبرتهم قال فرجعت إلى ربي عز وجل فقلت أي رب خفف عن أمتي فحط عني خمسا فرجعت إلى موسى فقال ما فعلت قلت حط عني خمسا قال إن أمتك لا تطيق ذلك فارجع إلى ربك فاسأله التخفيف لأمتك قال فلم أزل أرجع بين ربي وبين موسى ويحط عني خمسا خمسا حتى قال يا محمد هي خمس صلوات في كل يوم وليلة بكل صلاة عشر فتلك خمسون صلاة ومن هم بحسنة فلم يعملها كتبت حسنة فإن عملها كتبت عشرا ومن هم بسيئة فلم يعملها لم تكتب شيئا فإن عملها كتبت سيئة واحدة فنزلت حتى انتهيت إلى موسى فأخبرته فقال ارجع إلى ربك فاسأله التخفيف لأمتك فإن أمتك لا تطيق ذاك فقال رسول الله ﷺ لقد رجعت إلى ربي حتى لقد استحيت
