Its isnad is hasan, at least on account of Suddi, who is Ismail bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Kareema. He was not the sole narrator of it, so as to render the hadith daif as some scholars have held, because they examined it in Ibn Majah 1/484, number 1511, and found it daif there, to the point that Nawawi said, "This hadith is baseless."May Allah forgive Nawawi, if that is indeed established from him, for Bukhari narrated in his Sahih 10/577, number 6194 (Fath), via the route of Ibn Numayr, from Muhammad bin Bishr, from Ismail, who said, "I said to Ibn Abu Awfa, who was a companion, 'What do you think about Ibrahim, the son of the Prophet?' He said, 'He died young, and had it been decreed that after Muhammad there would be a prophet, his son Ibrahim would have lived, but there is no prophet after him.'"This carries exactly the same meaning as the hadith of Ahmad, and anyone versed in Arabic will recognize this. Nawawi is not ignorant of this hadith, so I think that statement is not firmly established from him.
