A man passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while one of his wives was with him. The Prophet ﷺ called out to him, "So-and-so, this is my wife," letting him know who she was.The man said, "Messenger of Allah, would you suspect anything of me?"He replied, "I feared that Satan might cast something into your heart."
حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أخبرنا حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت البناني
أن رجلا مر برسول الله ﷺ ومعه بعض أزواجه فقال يا فلانة يعلمه أنها زوجته فقال الرجل يا رسول الله ﷺ أتظن بي قال فقال إني خشيت أن يدخل عليك الشيطان

Its chain of transmission is sahih. It is found in Bukhari with a similar wording, 4/278, no. 2035, Fath, in the book of itikaf, chapter "Does the one performing itikaf go out for his needs?" Also in Muslim, in the book of Salam, 4/1712, no. 2174, and Ibn Majah, 1/556, no. 1779.
