I was a guest of Umar when he turned on his wife and struck her. He then said, "Ashath, remember three things from me which I memorized from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Do not ask a man why he struck his wife, and do not sleep except after praying witr." And I forgot the third.

Its chain of transmission is daif. Dawud bin Yazid Awdi is not strong, and scholars have criticized him. Abdul-Rahman Masli is nearly unknown. Hafiz mentioned in Tahdheeb 6:304 that he has no report in Abu Dawud, Nasai, and Ibn Majah except this hadith, and he said, "Hakim graded it sahih." As for Abul-Fath Azdi, he mentioned this Abdul-Rahman among the daif narrators and said, "There is something questionable about him," and he cited this hadith for him.Masli, with the mim vowelled with a damma and the sin unvowelled, is a designation referring to Bani Masliyah, a tribe descended from Kinanah or from Madhhij.
