Anas bin Malik reported,

A man from the Ansar came to the Prophet ﷺ and complained to him of his need.The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you have nothing at all?"He brought him a coarse blanket and a wooden cup.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Who will buy these?"A man said, "I will take them for one dirham."He said, "Who will offer more than a dirham?"The people remained silent.He said again, "Who will offer more than a dirham?"Another man said, "I will take them for two dirhams."He said, "They are yours."Then he said, "Begging is not lawful except for one of three, a man burdened with a painful blood debt, a man crushed by overwhelming debt, or a man stricken by grinding poverty."

أن رجلا من الأنصار أتى النبي ﷺ فشكا إليه الحاجة فقال له النبي ﷺ ما عندك شيء فأتاه بحلس وقدح وقال النبي ﷺ من يشتري هذا فقال رجل أنا آخذهما بدرهم قال من يزيد على درهم فسكت القوم فقال من يزيد على درهم فقال رجل أنا آخذهما بدرهمين قال هما لك ثم قال إن المسألة لا تحل إلا لأحد ثلاث ذي دم موجع أو غرم مفظع أو فقر مدقع
