The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Makkah on the day of the Conquest wearing a helmet. It was said to him, "Ibn Khatal is clinging to the curtains of the Kaabah."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Kill him."Abdul-Rahman said, in what I recited to him, meaning Malik, "The Prophet ﷺ was not in a state of ihram that day, and Allah knows best."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي حدثنا مالك عن الزهري
أن رسول الله ﷺ دخل يوم الفتح مكة وعليه المغفر فقيل له إن ابن خطل متعلق بأستار الكعبة فقال النبي ﷺ اقتلوه قال عبد الرحمن وفيما قرأت عليه يعني مالك قال ولم يكن النبي ﷺ يومئذ محرما والله أعلم
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated it in Muhassab 3/21, Entering the Sanctuary and Makkah without ihram, and Muslim in Hajj, The permissibility of entering Makkah without ihram, 2/989, 990, no. 1357, and Abu Dawud in Jihad, Killing the captive, 3/59, no. 2685, and Nasai in the Rites, Entering Makkah without ihram, 5/201, no. 2867, and Malik in Hajj, The comprehensive chapter on Hajj from Anas, 1/423, no. 247.12007m - Abdul-Rahman narrated to us, and among what I read to him, meaning Malik, he said, and the Prophet ﷺ was not, on that day, in a state of ihram. And Allah knows best. Sahih (12007m). Its isnad is sahih.
