He saw mud on the nose and tip of the nose of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the traces of prostration, for they had been rained upon during the night.

Its isnad is sahih. Ismail bin Umaya is al-Umawi. Abu Dawud narrated the hadith 2/38 no. 1331, in the Book of Prayer, on raising the voice in recitation. Hakim graded it sahih 1/311, and Dhahabi agreed with him, as did Bayhaqi 3/11.
