The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, a slain man, or perhaps a dead man, was found between two villages. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that the distance between the two villages be measured to determine which of them he was closer to. He was found to be closer to one of them by the span of a hand. The narrator said, it is as if I can still see the hand-span of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So he assigned the case to the village that was nearer.
حدثنا أسود بن عامر حدثنا أبو إسرائيل إسماعيل الملائي عن عطية
قال رسول الله ﷺ وجد قتيل بين قريتين أو ميت فأمر رسول الله ﷺ فذرع ما بين القريتين إلى أيهما كان أقرب فوجد أقرب إلى أحدهما بشبر قال فكأني أنظر إلى شبر رسول الله ﷺ فجعله على الذي كان أقرب
