A man of Aslam was with a small flock of his in the desert of Dhul-Hulayfa, beating down leaves for them to graze, when a wolf rushed in and snatched one of his sheep. The man shouted at it and pelted it with stones until he had rescued his sheep from it. Then the wolf came forward and sat back on its haunches, curling its tail beneath it, facing the man.The wolf said, "You have taken away provision that Allah provided for me."The man exclaimed, "How astonishing! A wolf squatting there with its tail tucked under it, speaking to me!"The wolf replied, "By Allah, you are leaving behind something far more astonishing than this.""And what is more astonishing than this?" the man asked.The wolf said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is among the two palm trees between the two lava fields, telling the people of tidings of what has already passed and what will come afterward."So the Arabi called out to his sheep and drove them along until he had brought them to the edge of Madinah. Then he walked on to the Prophet ﷺ and knocked at his door.When the Prophet ﷺ had finished praying, he asked, "Where is the Arabi, the owner of the sheep?"The Arabi stood up, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Tell the people what you heard and what you saw."So the Arabi told the people what he had seen of the wolf and what he had heard from it.At that the Prophet ﷺ said, "He spoke the truth. These are signs that will come before the Hour. By Him in whose hand my soul rests, the Hour will not come until a man goes out from his household and his sandal, or his whip, or his staff tells him what his family did after he left."
حدثنا أبو النضر حدثنا عبد الحميد حدثني شهر قال ثنا أبو سعيد الخدري قال بينما رجل من أسلم في غنيمة له يهش عليها في بيداء ذي الحليفة إذ عدا عليه ذئب فانتزع شاة من غنمه فجهجأه الرجل فرماه بالحجارة حتى استنقذ منه شاته ثم إن الذئب أقبل حتى أقعى مستذفرا بذنبه مقابل الرجل فذكره نحو حديث شعيب بن أبي حمزة
