A man from the Ansar said to his companions, "By Allah, I used to tell you that once matters settled, he would prefer others over you."They responded to him harshly. Word of this reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he came to them and said things to them which I do not remember.They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Were you not unable to ride horses?" Whenever he mentioned something to them, they would say, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."When he saw that they were not responding with anything, he said, "Will you not say, 'Your people fought you, but we supported you. Your people expelled you, but we gave you refuge'?"They said, "We will not say that, Messenger of Allah. You say it."He said, "Company of the Ansar, are you not pleased that people should take away worldly gains while you take away the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with you?"They said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Company of the Ansar, are you not pleased that if people travel one valley and the Ansar travel another, I would travel the valley of the Ansar?"They said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Were it not for the Hijrah, I would be a man from the Ansar. They are my inner circle, my household, and the trusted vessel I turn to. So overlook the faults of those who err among them and accept the good from those who do well."Abu Saeed said, I said to Muawiya, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us that we would see preferential treatment given to others after him."Muawiya asked, "What did he command you to do?"I said, "He commanded us to be patient."He said, "Then be patient."
حدثنا يحيى بن أبي بكير حدثنا الفضيل بن مرزوق عن عطية العوفي قال
قال رجل من الأنصار لأصحابه أما والله لقد كنت أحدثكم أنه لو قد استقامت الأمور قد آثر عليكم قال فردوا عليه ردا عنيفا قال فبلغ ذلك رسول الله ﷺ قال فجاءهم فقال لهم أشياء لا أحفظها قالوا بلى يا رسول الله قال فكنتم لا تركبون الخيل قال فكلما قال لهم شيئا قالوا بلى يا رسول الله قال فلما رآهم لا يردون عليه شيئا قال أفلا تقولون قاتلك قومك فنصرناك وأخرجك قومك فآويناك قالوا نحن لا نقول ذلك يا رسول الله أنت تقوله قال يا معشر الأنصار ألا ترضون أن يذهب الناس بالدنيا وتذهبون أنتم برسول الله ﷺ قالوا بلى يا رسول الله قال يا معشر الأنصار ألا ترضون أن الناس لو سلكوا واديا وسلكتم واديا لسلكت وادي الأنصار قالوا بلى يا رسول الله قال لولا الهجرة لكنت امرأ من الأنصار كرشي وأهل بيتي وعيبتي التي آوي إليها فاعفوا عن مسيئهم واقبلوا من محسنهم قال أبو سعيد قلت لمعاوية أما إن رسول الله ﷺ حدثنا أننا سنرى بعده أثرة قال معاوية فما أمركم قلت أمرنا أن نصبر قال فاصبروا إذا
