Safwan bin Muattal's wife came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Safwan breaks my fast when I fast, beats me when I pray, and does not pray the morning prayer until the sun rises."So he sent for him and asked, "What do you say to what she has said?"Safwan replied, "As for her saying that I break her fast, I am a young man and I have forbidden her to fast."That very day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade a woman from fasting except with her husband's permission.Safwan continued, "As for her saying that I beat her over the prayer, she recites two long surahs and keeps me waiting."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Even if people recited a single surah, it would suffice you."Safwan said, "As for her saying that I do not pray until the sun rises, I am heavy-headed, and I come from a household known for that, for heaviness of head."The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you wake, then pray."
حدثنا أسود بن عامر حدثنا أبو بكر عن الأعمش عن أبي صالح
جاءت امرأة صفوان بن معطل إلى النبي ﷺ قالت إن صفوان يفطرني إذا صمت ويضربني إذا صليت ولا يصلي الغداة حتى تطلع الشمس قال فأرسل إليه فقال ما تقول هذه قال أما قولها يفطرني فإني رجل شاب وقد نهيتها أن تصوم قال فيومئذ نهى رسول الله ﷺ أن تصوم المرأة إلا بإذن زوجها قال وأما قولها إني أضربها على الصلاة فإنها تقرأ بسورتين فتعطلني قال لو قرأها الناس ما ضرك وأما قولها إني لا أصلي حتى تطلع الشمس فإني ثقيل الرأس وأنا من أهل بيت يعرفون بذاك بثقل الرءوس قال فإذا قمت فصل
Its isnad is sahih, and the hadith has already appeared at 11698, but there it mentions that Safwan was present in the gathering, and that she recited two surahs.
