I was present with Ali when the people of Nahrawan were killed. He said, "Search for the deformed man among the slain."They searched among the dead and said, "We cannot find him."He said, "Go back and search. By Allah, I have not lied, nor have I been lied to."So they went back and searched, but did not find him. He repeated this several times, each time swearing by Allah, "I have not lied, nor have I been lied to."Then they set off and found him beneath the slain in some mud. They pulled him out and brought him forward.Abu Wadi said, "It is as if I am still looking at him, an Abyssinian with a breast attached to one of his arms like a woman's breast, with hairs on it resembling the hairs on the tail of a jerboa."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Jamil bin Murrah Shaybani Basri is trustworthy. Ibn Main, Nasai, and others confirmed his trustworthiness, and Bukhari mentioned him in al-Kabir 1/2/215 without noting any criticism of him.Abu Wadi is Abbad bin Nusayb, with the diminutive form, Sakhtiyani, who is well known by his kunya. He was in charge of Ali's police force, and he is trustworthy. Ibn Main confirmed his trustworthiness, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators. See his biography in al-Jarh wal-Tadil 3/1/87.Sakhtani is pronounced with a fatha on the sin and the ta, with a silent ha between them, ending in a nun, a designation derived from Sakhtan, which was the title of Jusham bin Awf bin Hudhayma."He killed the people of Nahrawan" in kh reads "mutilated" instead of "killed," which is an error we have corrected from k and h.
