Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

Ali, while in Yemen, sent to the Prophet ﷺ a piece of gold still embedded in its ore. The Prophet ﷺ divided it among Aqra bin Habis al-Hanzali of the clan of Mujash, Uyayna bin Badr al-Fazari, Alqama bin Ulatha al-Amiri of the clan of Kilab, and Zayd al-Khayr al-Tai of the clan of Nabhan.Quraysh and the Ansar became angry and said, "He gives to the chieftains of the people of Najd and leaves us out."The Prophet ﷺ said, "I am only seeking to win their hearts."Then a man came forward with deep-set eyes, a prominent forehead, a thick beard, high cheekbones, and a shaved head. He said, "Muhammad, fear Allah."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Who would obey Allah if I disobeyed Him? He entrusts me with the people of the earth, yet you do not trust me?"A man from the gathering, whom I believe was Khalid bin Walid, asked permission to kill him, but the Prophet ﷺ prevented him. When the man turned away, the Prophet ﷺ said, "From this man's lineage will come a people who recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass through Islam as an arrow passes through its prey. They will kill the people of Islam and leave the idol-worshippers alone. If I live to see them, I will surely slaughter them as Aad were slaughtered."

عن أبي سعيد الخدري قال

بعث علي وهو باليمن إلى النبي ﷺ بذهيبة في تربتها فقسمها بين الأقرع بن حابس الحنظلي ثم أحد بني مجاشع وبين عيينة بن بدر الفزاري وبين علقمة بن علاثة العامري ثم أحد بني كلاب وبين زيد الخير الطائي ثم أحد بني نبهان قال فغضبت قريش والأنصار فقالوا يعطي صناديد أهل نجد ويدعنا قال إنما أتألفهم قال فأقبل رجل غائر العينين ناتئ الجبين كث اللحية مشرف الوجنتين محلوق قال فقال يا محمد اتق الله قال فمن يطع الله إذا عصيته أيأمنني على أهل الأرض ولا تأمنوني قال فسأل رجل من القوم قتله النبي ﷺ أراه خالد بن الوليد فمنعه فلما ولى قال من ضئضئ هذا قوم يقرءون القرآن لا يجاوز حناجرهم يمرقون من الإسلام كما مروق السهم من الرمية يقتلون أهل الإسلام ويدعون أهل الأوثان لئن أنا أدركتهم لأقتلنهم قتل عاد
