We were detained on the day of the Trench until a long portion of the night had passed before we were relieved. That is the meaning of Allah's words, "And Allah spared the believers from fighting, and Allah is ever Powerful and Mighty" [Ahzab 33:25].He said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then called Bilal and ordered him, so he gave the iqamah and the Prophet prayed Dhuhr, performing it well just as he would pray it at its proper time. Then he gave the iqamah for Asr and prayed it likewise, then he gave the iqamah for Maghrib and prayed it likewise, then he gave the iqamah for Isha and prayed it likewise. This was before the verse on the prayer of fear was revealed.Hajjaj said, regarding the prayer of fear, "But if you fear, then pray on foot or riding" [Baqarah 2:239].
