Abu Nadra reported,

I asked Ibn Abbas about currency exchange, and he said, "Hand to hand?"I said, "Yes."He said, "There is no harm in it."So I met Abu Saeed Khudri and told him that I had asked Ibn Abbas about currency exchange and he had said there was no harm in it.Abu Saeed replied, "Did he really say that? We will write to him, and he will no longer issue such a verdict to you. By Allah, one of the young servants of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ once brought him some dates, and the Prophet ﷺ did not recognize them. He said, 'These do not seem to be from the dates of our land.'The young man said, 'There was some issue with our dates this year, so I took these and gave a little extra in exchange.'The Prophet ﷺ said, 'You have given double. You have practiced usury. Do not do this again. If you are dissatisfied with any of your dates, sell them, then buy whatever dates you want with the proceeds.'"
