Abu Salama reported,

We were discussing Laylat al-Qadr among a group of Quraysh, so I went to Abu Saeed Khudri, who was a friend of mine, and said, "Come out with us to the palm grove."He came out wearing a woolen cloak of his, and I said, "I heard that you have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention Laylat al-Qadr."He said, "Yes. We performed itikaf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the middle ten days of Ramadan. On the morning of the twentieth, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said, 'I was shown Laylat al-Qadr, then I was made to forget it,' or he said, 'I forgot it, so seek it in the last ten nights, on the odd-numbered ones. I saw myself prostrating in water and mud. Whoever performed itikaf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ should return.'So we returned, and we could not see a single wisp of cloud in the sky. Then a cloud came and rained on us until the roof of the mosque, which was made of palm fronds, leaked. The prayer was called, and I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrating in water and mud, until I could see the mark of mud on his forehead."

حدثنا إسماعيل أخبرنا هشام الدستوائي عن يحيى بن أبي كثير

عن أبي سلمة قال

تذاكرنا ليلة القدر في نفر من قريش فأتيت أبا سعيد الخدري وكان صديقا لي فقلت اخرج بنا إلى النخل فخرج وعليه خميصة له فقلت سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يذكر ليلة القدر قال نعم اعتكفنا مع رسول الله ﷺ العشر الوسط من رمضان فخطبنا رسول الله ﷺ صبيحة عشرين فقال أريت ليلة القدر فأنسيتها أو قال فنسيتها فالتمسوها في العشر الأواخر في الوتر فإني رأيت أني أسجد في ماء وطين فمن كان اعتكف مع رسول الله ﷺ فليرجع فرجعنا وما نرى في السماء قزعة فجاءت سحابة فمطرنا حتى سال سقف المسجد وكان من جريد النخل وأقيمت الصلاة ورأيت رسول الله ﷺ يسجد في الماء والطين حتى رأيت أثر الطين في جبهته
