Hilal bin Hisn reported,

I came as a guest to Abu Saeed Khudri and we sat together in the same gathering. He related that one morning he had tied a stone over his belly out of hunger, and his wife, or his mother, said to him, "Go to the Prophet ﷺ and ask him, for so-and-so came to him and asked, and he gave him, and so-and-so came to him and asked, and he gave him."He said, "I told myself I would first try to find something." So I went searching.Hajjaj said, "But I found nothing, so I came to him while he was delivering a sermon. I caught these words from him as he was saying, 'Whoever seeks chastity, Allah will keep him chaste. Whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient. Whoever asks of us, we will either give him what we have or share with him what we possess.'"Abu Hamza is the one uncertain about the wording."'And whoever refrains from asking us, or seeks self-sufficiency, is more beloved to us than the one who asks of us.'"He said, "So I returned and did not ask him for anything. Allah kept providing for us until I do not know of any household among the Ansar with more wealth than ours."

حدثنا محمد بن جعفر وحجاج قالا حدثنا شعبة قال سمعت أبا حمزة يحدث

عن هلال بن حصن قال

نزلت على أبي سعيد الخدري فضمني وإياه المجلس قال فحدث أنه أصبح ذات يوم وقد عصب على بطنه حجرا من الجوع فقالت له امرأته أو أمه ائت النبي ﷺ فاسأله فقد أتاه فلان فسأله فأعطاه وأتاه فلان فسأله فأعطاه فقال قلت حتى ألتمس شيئا قال فالتمست فأتيته قال حجاج فلم أجد شيئا فأتيته وهو يخطب فأدركت من قوله وهو يقول من استعف يعفه الله ومن استغنى يغنه الله ومن سألنا إما أن نبذل له وإما أن نواسيه أبو حمزة الشاك ومن يستعف عنا أو يستغني أحب إلينا ممن يسألنا قال فرجعت فما سألته شيئا فما زال الله عز وجل يرزقنا حتى ما أعلم في الأنصار أهل بيت أكثر أموالا منا
