At al-Jabiyah, he said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us as I now stand among you, and said, "Treat my companions well, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. After that, lying will spread until a man will offer testimony before being asked for it. Whoever among you desires the heart of Paradise must hold fast to the community, for Satan is with the one who is alone, and he is farther from two. Let none of you be alone with a woman, for Satan is the third of them. Whoever is pleased by his good deeds and grieved by his bad deeds is a believer."
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari mentioned it without a full chain in Tarikh al-Kabir 1/1/102, by way of Ibn Mubarak, then said, Abdullah bin Salih told us, Layth told me, he said, Yazid bin Had told me, from Ibn Dinar, from Ibn Shihab, that Umar reported something similar from the Prophet ﷺ. Some of them said it was from Ibn Dinar, from Abu Salih. The hadith of Ibn Hadi is more sahih, and it is mursal, its being mursal is more sahih. This is a criticism raised by Bukhari against the hadith, but it is not a defect that undermines it, for Muhammad bin Suqah is trustworthy, reliable, and well regarded, and he did connect the hadith with a full chain, so the fact that others transmitted it as mursal does not harm it. See number 177, and Al-Risalah by Shafii, in my edition and commentary, number 1315, where we have already documented this hadith.Al-bahbahah, with two b's each followed by a fatha and two plain h's, the first with a sukun and the second with a fatha, means being firmly established and settled in one's place.
