A man found a snake in his house, so he took his spear and impaled it. The snake did not die until the man himself had died. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed of this, he said, "Among you dwell house-spirits. When you see one of them, warn it three times. If it appears again after that, then kill it."
حدثنا ابن نمير أخبرنا عبيد الله عن صيفي
وجد رجل في منزله حية فأخذ رمحه فشكها فيه فلم تمت الحية حتى مات الرجل فأخبر به رسول الله ﷺ فقال إن معكم عوامر فإذا رأيتم منهم شيئا فحرجوا عليه ثلاثا فإن رأيتموه بعد ذلك فاقتلوه

Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are trustworthy, and Ubaydullah is Ibn Abdullah bin Umar Umari, and Sayfi is Ibn Ziyad. The hadith is found in Muslim 4/1757, no. 2236M, in the Book of Greetings, on killing snakes, and in Abu Dawud 4/365, no. 5256, in the Book of Manners, on killing snakes, and in Malik 2/976, and Tirmidhi 1484.
