The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon to us after the afternoon prayer until the sun was about to set. Those of us who could remember it remembered it, and those who forgot it forgot it. He praised Allah.Affan said that Hammad said, "What I remember best is that he spoke about everything that will occur until the Day of Resurrection."He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said, "To proceed. This world is green and sweet, and Allah has appointed you as successors in it to see how you will act. So beware of the world and beware of women.Indeed, the children of Adam were created in different categories. Among them is one who is born a believer, lives as a believer, and dies a believer. Among them is one who is born a disbeliever, lives as a disbeliever, and dies a disbeliever. Among them is one who is born a believer, lives as a believer, but dies a disbeliever. And among them is one who is born a disbeliever, lives as a disbeliever, but dies a believer.Indeed, anger is a burning ember kindled in the heart of the son of Adam. Do you not see the redness of his eyes and the swelling of his neck veins? So when any of you feels something of that, let him cling to the ground.Indeed, the best of men is one who is slow to anger and quick to be pleased, and the worst of men is one who is quick to anger and slow to be pleased. When a man is slow to anger and slow to return to contentment, or quick to anger and quick to return to contentment, the one balances the other.Indeed, the best of merchants is one who pays his debts well and seeks repayment graciously, and the worst of merchants is one who pays his debts poorly and seeks repayment harshly. When a man pays his debts well but seeks repayment harshly, or pays his debts poorly but seeks repayment graciously, the one balances the other.Indeed, every treacherous person will have a banner on the Day of Resurrection proportionate to his treachery. And the greatest treachery is the treachery of a ruler over the common people.Indeed, let no man be prevented by his awe of people from speaking the truth when he knows it. Indeed, the best form of jihad is a word of truth spoken before a tyrannical ruler."When the sun was about to set, he said, "Indeed, what remains of this world compared to what has passed of it is like what remains of this day of yours compared to what has passed of it."
