During the expedition of Tabuk, the people were struck by famine. They said, "Messenger of Allah, if you would permit us, we could slaughter our water-camels so we may eat and use their fat."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told them, "Do so."Then Umar came and said, "Messenger of Allah, if they do that, our mounts will become few. But call them to bring whatever is left of their provisions, then invoke Allah's blessing upon it. Perhaps Allah will place blessing in that."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a leather mat and spread it out, then summoned them to bring the remainder of their provisions. One man came with a handful of corn, another with a handful of dates, and another with a piece of bread, until a small amount had gathered on the mat. Then he invoked blessing upon it and said to them, "Take from it into your vessels."So they filled their vessels, until there was not a single container in the entire camp that they had not filled, and they ate until they were satisfied, with some still left over.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah. No servant meets Allah with these two testimonies, free of doubt, and is then barred from Paradise."
حدثنا أبو معاوية حدثنا الأعمش عن أبي صالح
لما كان غزوة تبوك أصاب الناس مجاعة فقالوا يا رسول الله لو أذنت لنا فنحرنا نواضحنا فأكلنا وادهنا فقال لهم رسول الله ﷺ افعلوا فجاء عمر فقال يا رسول الله إنهم إن فعلوا قل الظهر ولكن ادعهم بفضل أزوادهم ثم ادع لهم عليه بالبركة لعل الله أن يجعل في ذلك فدعا رسول الله ﷺ بنطع فبسطه ثم دعاهم بفضل أزوادهم فجعل الرجل يجيء بكف الذرة والآخر بكف التمر والآخر بالكسرة حتى اجتمع على النطع من ذلك شيء يسير ثم دعا عليه بالبركة ثم قال لهم خذوا في أوعيتكم قال فأخذوا في أوعيتهم حتى ما تركوا من العسكر وعاء إلا ملئوه وأكلوا حتى شبعوا وفضلت منه فضلة فقال رسول الله ﷺ أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأني رسول الله لا يلقى الله بها عبد غير شاك فتحجب عنه الجنة
