I attended the festival of Fitr with Musab bin Zubayr in Medina. He sent for Abu Saeed and asked him how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform it. Abu Saeed informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray before delivering the sermon, so Musab prayed that day before the sermon.

Its isnad is daif, it contains Abu Yaqub Khayyat, whom Dhahabi described in al-Mizan as unknown, and likewise Ibn Hajar in al-Taajil, and the correct reading is that he is Ibn Hannat. The hadith itself is sahih, for it has been narrated from Abu Saeed and others that the Prophet ﷺ performed the Eid prayer before the sermon. See Sahih Bukhari 2/448, number 956 (Fath), Muslim 2/603, number 885, Sunan Abu Dawud 1/296, number 1140, and Tirmidhi 2/441, number 531, where he said, hasan sahih.
