The Prophet ﷺ said that one should perform ablution after intercourse if he wishes to return to it again.Sufyan said, "Abu Saeed lived to witness the battle of al-Harrah."

The hadith is found in Bukhari 1/80, in the chapter on ghusl, on a person in a state of major impurity performing wudu then sleeping, and in Muslim 1/248 no. 305, in the chapter on menstruation, on the permissibility of a person in a state of major impurity sleeping, and in Ibn Majah 1/193 no. 587.
