It was said to Abu Hurairah, "You narrate too much, you narrate too much."He replied, "If I were to relate to you everything I heard from the Prophet ﷺ, you would pelt me with dung and refuse to even look at me."

قيل لأبي هريرة أكثرت أكثرت قال فلو حدثتكم بكل ما سمعت من النبي ﷺ لرميتموني بالقشع ولما ناظرتموني
Its isnad is sahih. Ali bin Thabit is al-Jazari, a truthful narrator whom Ahmad graded as trustworthy. The imams have narrated this hadith at length. As for his saying, "You have pelted me with the qish," it has been said that it means dry hide, and it has been said that it means the crust of the earth, and it has been said that it means phlegm, and it has been said that it means foolishness.
