The Prophet ﷺ said, "Souls are like conscripted soldiers. Those that recognize one another come together, and those that fail to recognize one another part ways."
حدثنا عبد الصمد وحسن بن موسى قالا حدثنا حماد عن سهيل عن أبيه
عن النبي ﷺ قال الأرواح جنود مجندة فما تعارف منها ائتلف وما تناكر منها اختلف
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari related it, 4/112, in the Book of Prophets, chapter "Souls are conscripted troops," and Muslim in the Book of Righteousness, chapter "Souls are conscripted troops," 4/2031, no. 2638, and Abu Dawud, 4834, in the Book of Manners, chapter "Whom one is commanded to sit with," with his wording.
