I went out to intercept the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before I had embraced Islam, but I found that he had reached the mosque before me. So I stood behind him, and he began reciting Surah al-Haqqah. I started marveling at the composition of the Quran.I said to myself, "By Allah, this man is a poet, just as the Quraysh have said."Then he recited, "Indeed, it is the speech of a noble messenger. It is not the speech of a poet. Little do you believe."I said to myself, "Then he is a soothsayer."He recited, "Nor is it the speech of a soothsayer. Little do you remember. It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. And if he had fabricated against Us any sayings, We would have seized him by the right hand, then We would have cut from him the aorta, and there is no one of you who could have prevented it" [Haqqah 69:40–47], to the end of the surah. At that moment, Islam settled deeply into my heart.

Its chain is daif because it is disconnected. Shurayh will also have a mursal narration from Ali coming later with this same chain, no. 896. Shurayh bin Ubayd Al-Himsi is a later successor who did not meet Umar. In H it appears as "Ibn Ubayda," which is an error. Safwan is Ibn Amr bin Haram Al-Saksaki, who died in the year 155. In Tahzib 4:429 it appears as the year 100, which is an error. We have corrected it from Al-Tarikh Al-Saghir by Bukhari, page 179, and from Al-Khulasa. Abu Mughira is Abdullah bin Hajjaj Al-Himsi. The hadith appears in Tafsir Ibn Kathir 8:472 and in Majma al-Zawaid 9:62.
