The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade continuous fasting without breaking it.A man from among the Muslims said, "But you yourself fast continuously."He replied, "You are not like me. I spend the night with my Lord feeding me and giving me drink."When they refused to stop the practice of continuous fasting, he fasted with them one day, then another day, and then the new moon was sighted. He said, "If it had been delayed, I would have continued with you," as if to discipline them.
Its isnad is sahih, and "Salih" is a misreading, the correct name is Rawh. None of the narrators here has a teacher named Salih, and I did not find anyone among the students of Zuhri named Salih. It appears this way in manuscript J, and Ahmad transmits all his hadiths here from Rawh. Mentioned previously at 7773 and 10382.
