The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Were it not that I would place too great a burden on my community, I would have commanded them to use the tooth-stick before every prayer, and I would have delayed the late evening prayer until the first third of the night had passed. For when the first third of the night has passed, He descends to the lowest heaven and remains there until dawn breaks, saying, 'Is there anyone calling upon Me, that I may answer him? Is there anyone asking, that I may give him? Is there anyone seeking forgiveness for a sin, that I may forgive him?'"
حدثنا ابن أبي عدي عن محمد بن إسحاق عن سعيد بن أبي سعيد المقبري عن عطاء مولى أم صفية وقال يعقوب صبية وهو الصواب
قال رسول الله ﷺ لولا أن أشق على أمتي لأمرتهم بالسواك عند كل صلاة ولأخرت صلاة العشاء الآخرة إلى ثلث الليل الأول فإنه إذا مضى ثلث الليل الأول هبط إلى السماء الدنيا إلى طلوع الفجر يقول قائل ألا داع يجاب ألا سائل يعطيه ألا مذنب يستغفر فيغفر له
