Whoever withdraws his obedience and separates from the community and then dies, dies a death of ignorance. Whoever rises up against my nation, striking down its righteous and its wicked alike, sparing none of its believers and honoring no covenant with those bound by his pledge, is not of my nation. Whoever is killed fighting under a blind banner, calling to tribal partisanship, growing angry for the sake of tribal partisanship, or fighting for the sake of tribal partisanship, dies a death of ignorance.
Its isnad is sahih. Muslim narrated it, 3/1476, no. 1848, in the Book of Leadership, Obligation of Adhering to the Community of Muslims, and Nasai narrated it, 7/1233, in the Prohibition of Bloodshed, Severity Concerning One Who Fights Under a Blind Banner.
