The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared the area between its two lava fields a sanctuary, meaning Madinah. He said, "If I were to find gazelles resting there, I would not startle them."
حدثنا إسماعيل قال حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن إسحاق عن الزهري عن سعيد بن المسيب قال
حرم رسول الله ﷺ ما بين لابتيها قال يريد المدينة قال فلو وجدت الظباء ساكنة ما ذعرتها
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated it, 4/89, no. 1873 (Fath), in the virtues of Madinah, on the two lava fields of Madinah. Muslim narrated it, 2/1000, no. 1372, in Hajj, on the virtue of Madinah. Tirmidhi narrated it, 5/721, no. 3921, and said, hasan sahih. And Malik narrated it, 2/889, in the Jami, on what has been mentioned about the sanctity of Madinah.
