Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "The best of you are my generation, then those who follow them." Abu Hurairah said, "I do not recall whether he mentioned this twice or three times." "Then there will come after them a people who love plumpness, and who give testimony before being asked to do so."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة عن أبي بشر عن عبد الله بن شقيق
عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال خيركم قرني ثم الذين يلونهم قال أبو هريرة ولا أدري أذكر مرتين أو ثلاثا ثم يخلف من بعدهم قوم يحبون السمانة ويشهدون ولا يستشهدون
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Bishr is Jafar bin Iyas, whom Ibn Main, Abu Zura, and Abu Hatim considered reliable, though Shuba deemed him weak when narrating from Mujahid, and he did narrate from him. Here, however, he did not narrate from Mujahid. This hadith has come up many times before, see 4173 and 9289.
