Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came first, Abu Bakr came second, and Umar came third. Then a trial struck us, or befell us, and whatever Allah ﷻ willed came to pass.Abu Abdul-Rahman said, My father said, regarding his statement "then a trial struck us," he intended by this to express humility.

حدثنا عبد الرحمن عن سفيان عن أبي هاشم القاسم بن كثير عن قيس الخارفي قال سمعت

عليا رضي الله عنه يقول

سبق رسول الله ﷺ وصلى أبو بكر وثلث عمر رضي الله عنه ثم خبطتنا أو أصابتنا فتنة فما شاء الله ﷻ قال أبو عبد الرحمن قال أبي قوله ثم خبطتنا فتنة أراد أن يتواضع بذلك
