We came to greet him, and we said, "Tell us a hadith."He said, "I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for three years, and never were there years in which I was more attentive than those, nor more eager to retain what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said. I saw him gesture with his hand and say, 'Shortly before the Hour you will fight a people whose sandals are made of hair, and you will fight a people with small eyes and red faces, as though their faces were shields covered with layers of hide.'"By Allah, for one of you to go out and gather firewood, carry it on his back, sell it, support himself by it, and give some of it in charity, is better for him than going to a man to beg from him, whether the man gives him something or refuses him. That is because the upper hand is better than the lower hand. And begin with those you are responsible for."
