One of us used to speak to the man beside him during the prayer, then the verse was revealed, "And stand before Allah devoutly obedient" [Baqarah 2:238]. So we were ordered to remain silent and forbidden from speaking.
Muslim reported it in The Book of Mosques, chapter on the prohibition of speaking during prayer and the abrogation of its former permissibility, no. 539, from the hadith of Hushaym, and Bukhari in The Book of Actions During Prayer, chapter on what is forbidden of speaking during prayer, no. 1200, from the hadith of Ismail bin Abu Khalid, with the same chain.
