The Messenger of Allah ﷺ related this hadith, saying in it, "Perform ablution as Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has commanded you. Then say the testimony of faith and call the iqamah. Then say the takbir. If you know any portion of the Quran, recite it, and if not, then praise Allah, magnify Him, and declare His oneness."He also said in it, "Whatever you fall short of in this, you have fallen short of in your prayer."
حدثنا عباد بن موسى الختلي حدثنا إسمعيل يعني ابن جعفر أخبرني يحيى بن علي بن يحيى بن خلاد بن رافع الزرقي عن أبيه عن جده
أن رسول الله ﷺ فقص هذا الحديث قال فيه فتوضأ كما أمرك الله جل وعز ثم تشهد فأقم ثم كبر فإن كان معك قرآن فاقرأ به وإلا فاحمد الله وكبره وهلله وقال فيه وإن انتقصت منه شيئا انتقصت من صلاتك
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Nasai narrated it in the Book of Prayer, chapter on giving the iqamah for one who prays alone, hadith no. 668, from the hadith of Ismail bin Jafar, in abridged form, and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith no. 545.
